This outfit reminds me of snickerdoodle cookies fresh out of the oven- a classic winter treat. This is more casual and laid back compared to the iconic movie outfit, perfect for a chill coffee hangout with friends! Let me know what occasions you would wear this outfit to in the comments below!
Table of Contents
The Sweater
I would get this sweater in tall sizing and size up 1-2 sizes for a truly modest oversized look. Turtleneck sweaters are a perfect winter layering item- I like this one for its straight fit so it doesn’t bunch up around the hip and waist.
The Skirt
This skirt is made out of thick fabric which is perfect for winter. It does have a long slit in the back (find me a thick maxi skirt that doesn’t have a slit in it :0) but that’s easily fixable by wearing a slip underneath it. You can either go for a plain brown/beige cotton slip like this one, or a pleated skirt underneath to add a fun texture (biggest life hack ever). I would go one size up to accommodate wearing a skirt underneath. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a bit loose around the waist since the waist area will be covered by the sweater!
The Coat
This coat perfectly ties in both the skirt and the sweater together. The plaid beige matches the colors of the rest of the items in the outfit, while adding pattern to make the look more visually interesting. You can wear it without the belt for added modesty. If you want the layers underneath to also show, you can loosely tie the belt in the back of the coat instead of the front, prompting the jacket to stay open without defining waist shape!
The Shoes
I really like these new balance shoes, they have tons of patterns so whenever I look for sneaker shoes to match with an outfit I usually check these first. This particular pair matches well with the coat, and despite being multi-toned, doesn’t look out of place or make the outfit feel too patterny. Since these shoes are also pretty neutral, they’re easy to wear with other outfits as well. I always find that I wear shoes with more patterns or colors less than I want to, just because it’s hard to find outfits that I want to wear them with.
The Hijab
In this outfit I would wear the hijab tucked in to the turtleneck, especially if I’m keeping the coat on. I wanted to add a bit of a darker shade to create some contrast with the rest of the lighter outfit colors so I went with dark brown. The chiffon hijab is lighter material which makes it easy to tuck into the turtleneck without adding bulk.
The Accessories
As per my two items for every color rule, I added a dark brown shoulder bag to match with the dark brown hijab. I’ve used this bag before in the cozy coffee outfit and this outfit gives me similar vibes but in skirt form, so I thought it would be perfect for it! The bag adds an additional texture element to the outfit with the shiny, leathery feel. It’s also not too casual and not too fancy, which is perfect for a look that’s meant to be casual and put together!
