The practical business outfit is meant for… practicality :D. It’s got casual elements such as the sneakers and the sweater, but somehow it remains formal looking, which is perfect for in office comfort. Let me know what you think about this outfit in the comments below!
Table of Contents
The Shirt
This shirt dress is one of my favorite wardrobe items. It’s basically a long button up so it really helps with staying modest. I like this shirt dress under the long sweater dress since it peaks out from underneath which adds to the business aesthetic of the whole look. You can get this shirt in tall sizing as well, but it is already pretty long.
I like that it adds an extra layer underneath the sweater which helps add structure so that the sweater doesn’t cling as much as it normally would.
The Sweater
This is an affordable long knitted sweater dress which goes all the way down to the knees! I like that the cut of the dress is straight unlike most knitted dresses which usually cinch at the waist. It also has a straight hem as well so it doesn’t cinch at the hem which helps prevent the dress from sticking to the hip and leg area.
The Pants
These are really nice baggy pants- they look more form fitting than they actually are! The shade of gray is lighter than the sweater dress which creates a nice subtle contrast and the pleated tweed fabric adds to the formality of the outfit.
The Coat
This is a thick faux shearling coat that hits below the knees. I like the texture of the coat since it gives depth to the outfit. Longer coats look more professional and they also help keep your legs warm! I picked the color white to match with the button down and the shoes, but I think a dark gray or black coat would also go well with the outfit.
The Shoes
These shoes are a classic sneaker. They’re a bit more casual than normal business shoes but, depending on your work dress code, will usually be accepted. The red on the shoes adds a fun display of color that inspired that matching red hijab. Gray is one of the few colors that matches well with red and doesn’t cause the red to be too ‘in your face’.
The Hijab
This is a dark red hijab to match with the dark red in the shoes. I don’t think bright red works that well for most people, but dark red is a really nice color. The chiffon texture matches well with this outfit but you could also go with jersey. I would wear the hijab with one end over the front of the sweater and one end over the shoulder towards the back.
The Accessories
For accessories I went with a small white shoulder bag. The grid pattern on the bag separates the bag from the coat, since both are the same color. You could also go with a red bag that matches the hijab and shoes, or a black one as well!
