The Modest Midwest outfit is a fun twist on the cowboy boot trend (which is over now I believe but I’m contributing anyways- better late than never!). I personally am not a fan of cowboy boots but I think this outfit makes them more palatable! Let me know your opinion in the comment section below!!!

The Shirt Dress

This is a short sleeve tunic perfect for winter! The short sleeves allow you to customize the temperature of the outfit to best suit you. You can wear a long sleeve layer underneath the turtleneck in addition to the cardigan and coat for extra warmth. If you get hot easily, then you can forego the coat and the long sleeve layer.

You can go for a taller size to get more length on the tunic but it’s long enough with it’s original sizing to stay modest. With the length of the cardigan, I would personally stay with the original sizing. The collared neckline also helps keep your neck from showing.

The Cardigan

This cardigan (currently on sale!) carries half the outfit with it’s geometric olive green and burgundy pattern. The open front design allows the shirt dress to show and gives the cardigan an inherently loose fit so it doesn’t sit tightly on your body. Personally I would still size up one or two sizes for maximum oversized comfort.

The Skirt

This is a cute loose skirt. It does have a slit in the back, but it will still look nice with an underskirt underneath! The skirt is designed in a way so that the slit is of the overlapping kind, so it won’t look weird if you sew it close. Alternatively, letting the slit remain open with an underskirt underneath will not look out of place.

I think a plain beige cotton underskirt would match really well actually, since it blends in with the skirt. That way if it shows it’ll look purposeful! You could also experiment with different colors like olive green or burgundy but I’m not sure if picking a dark color will change the overall tone of the skirt.

If it’s cold, make sure to wear tights underneath like these fleece-lined tights!

The Coat

The green coat, while not directly matching the green shades of the cardigan, still works well with the olive green and burgundy shades. It’s a light windbreaker which makes it perfect for wearing on top of several layers of clothing without overheating or looking bulky. The hood also tucks in to the collar for a more classy look if desired.

The Boots

These cowboy boots carry the second half of the outfit. I have to say I am not a fan of cowboy boots at all, even more so after they started trending this year. These are honestly pretty though, and because they’re short it doesn’t feel too ‘in your face’ like a normal pair of cowboy boots.

The Hijab

I chose the olive green hijab to match with the olive green tones in the cardigan. I would wear one end of this hijab tucked in to the white dress shirt and the other draped across my shoulder.

I own this exact shade of green hijab and it is honestly one of the most versatile colors. You can wear it with almost any other color pretty much.

The Accessories

For accessories I went with a large burgundy tote bag to match with the burgundy boots. It’s functional, with plenty of space for your essentials. The leather texture of the bag contributes to the vintage midwest feel, matching the texture of the cowboy boots.
