The English Major outfit is not exclusive to English majors but it’s kind of the vibe I get from this look. I like to experiment with bolder hijab colors every once in a while and I think this is the first time I’ve tried red and I quite like it. Let me know how you feel about this outfit in the comments below!

The Tank Top

The mock neck tank top is an essential item that I always recommend having in your closet. I like to wear them under cardigans when I don’t want to wear a button up shirt or deal with my neck showing in regular t-shirts. With the mock neck tank top, you won’t overheat or get overstimulated by a long sleeve layer underneath another long sleeve item of clothing, especially if you plan on wearing a jacket on top like in this outfit.

What I like about this particular tank top is that it’s made out of cotton, and also that the fabric is ribbed as opposed to having a plain texture. I think the ribbing makes it look more purposeful and like it’s meant to be seen, as opposed to just a plain layer underneath the cardigan.

The Cardigan

This is an oversized cardigan but I would still go one or two sizes up to get it to drape below the hip area. I really like the stripes on these, the color combination is nice. I would wear the cardigan buttoned up but you can keep it open depending on what makes you more comfortable.

The Pants

Yes these are pants!!! These are not exactly skirt pants- they’re just wide cream trousers with a scalloped design at the hem which adds a fun twist to the pants. I like the hem because it brings attention to the shoes and also just brings peoples gaze down naturally (lol). It definitely needs to be worn with a long item of clothing on top like an oversized or long cardigan/sweater.

The Coat

This coat adds structure to the outfit and adds depth with texture as opposed to color which is nice since we already have a bunch of colors and patterns going on. It’s not made to be worn with a belt which is a bonus for added rectangularness. Personally I would wear this outfit with the jacket open if possible so the inner red and pink layers can show.

The Shoes

I love these shoes! The red matches with the red outline on the stripes and it’s not a crazy bright red which is nice. I also like that they are casual and comfortable so it makes this outfit a good walking outfit. I like that the red is just an element in the shoes and not the main color so it adds a nice little pop. Sometimes it’s better to incorporate color matching more subtly like this as opposed to going for an entirely red shoe.

The Hijab

This is a dark red hijab to match with the dark red in the shoes. I don’t think bright red works that well for most people, but dark red is a really nice color. The chiffon texture matches well with this outfit but you could also go with jersey. I would wear the hijab with one end over the front of the cardigan and one end over the shoulder towards the back.

The Accessories

For accessories I went with a dark red corduroy bag to match all the other red elements of the look. I initially was going to go with cream/white but decided against it since the colors got too unbalanced. This way even if you keep the jacket closed, the rest of the red items in the outfit make sense. I also like that it’s a corduroy bag since that adds to the casual aspect of the outfit. Plus you could fit whatever book you’re reading in there quite comfortably.
