Someone suggested to me to replace the red converse with yellow doc martens and I liked this version so much I figured I’d make it into a remix even though it’s a minimal change. I feel like this version of the look is truer to it’s name. Let me know which shoes you prefer in the comments below!
Table of Contents
The Shirt
This shirt dress is one of my favorite wardrobe items. It’s basically a long button up so it really helps with staying modest. You can get this shirt in tall sizing as well, but I think with the shorter cardigan the current length is good as it is. Since it’s short sleeve, you may want to wear a long sleeve shirt underneath to keep warm if you plan on wearing this outfit without a jacket!
The Cardigan
This cardigan inspired the whole outfit! I really like the strips and the big balloon sleeves, and the fact that it doesn’t have a cinched hem. The colors are really bold and you can easily make the outfit more colorful by wearing pants that match any of the stripes, like orange. If I was an elementary or preschool teacher I think I would be wearing this cardigan a lot!
The Jeans
I like these jeans because although they’re baggy, they curve slightly on the hem, which gives a straighter silhouette than some other baggy jeans I’ve owned. They’re also high-waisted which I prefer since it provides extra coverage in case your shirt lifts up, and also it’s just more comfortable in my opinion. The color of the jeans also matches well with the cardigan- plus the darker jean color works well with bold colors to mute them, since they would stand out more against a lighter background.
The Coat
This is a classic navy blue puffer coat. I would size up since it is made to fit tighter around the waist. I like that it’s long so it hits between the waist and the knees so it kind of looks like a coat dress! It’s also long enough to cover up the cardigan and the shirt dress so that they don’t stick out from underneath. I also like the big hood with the inner layer around the neck to help keep you extra insulated and toasty!
The Shoes and Socks
I got these shoes recommended to me and I really liked the mustard yellow color- it’s vibrant and matches perfectly with the yellow stripes on the cardigan. I also like that it has those small gaps which allow the socks to show through. If I could find stripey socks that matched the cardigan I would have gone for them but instead I settled for red. I think blue or orange would look great as well- definitely some bright contrasting color.
The Hijab
I picked a dark blue hijab to match with the cardigan. Similar to the shoes, there isn’t an exact shade of blue in the cardigan like the hijab but it still works to add visual appeal. The jersey fabric of the hijab adds to the overall casual feel of the look, while the darker color works to offset the brightness of the rest of the items.
The Accessories
For accessories I decided to lean into the orangeness of the cardigan, supplementing the outfit with a large orange crossbody for extra casual points, and orange colored sunglasses for an additional splash of color. Orange and blue are good contrasting colors so having the blue hijab and the orange sunglasses in the same vicinity, as well as the navy blue jacket and orange bag, helps to create a fun contrasting look!
