The reasoning for why this is essential is quite similar to the long cotton underskirt, but there’s an added benefit with the maxi pleated skirt. In addition to looking nice underneath clothing with slits, it also serves well as an extender to any dress or skirt that ranges from slightly short to short!

Solves short skirt/dress problems!!

I see a lot of cute loose maxi dresses/skirts that are made to hit just above the calves. It’s frustrating, but with a pleated skirt underneath usually the dress/skirt can be saved! The pleats in the skirt add a fun texture that makes wearing the skirt look stylistically purposeful instead of just for added modesty.

As a bonus the skirt creates a heavier structure underneath the fabric of the outer dress/skirt layer, which helps prevent your legs from being outlined!

Aesthetic slit fix!

I’ve been tricked so many times by what I think is a super cute maxi skirt/dress, only to discover that it has a slit in it. Depending on the style, some skirts/dresses can still be worn with the pleated skirt underneath to provide coverage. This will actually work really well with skirts that have large slits in them, especially if the slits are down the sides. I’m not really a proponent of sewing up slits in skirts or dresses because it makes it harder to walk (unless you sew another piece of fabric underneath).

The maxi pleated skirt is definitely a practical item to have on hand!
