This is another essentials series that I’m starting that will contain all types of hijabs and their pros and cons! You can also find a lot of different ways to style each hijab here!
Pros
- Lightweight
I think chiffon hijabs are the most versatile of hijabs because they are so lightweight. This makes it easy to experiment with different styles without the added bulk like with jersey or cotton hijabs. - Elegant
I personally like the way chiffon hijabs look more than some other hijab materials like jersey. They have a nice flow and shine to them that just makes an outfit a little bit more sophisticated. - Breathable
Chiffon hijabs are definitely the go to hijabs for the summer! Chiffon is a super light and breathable fabric which makes it perfect for warm to hot weathers!
Cons
- Can be transparent
Some chiffon hijab colors, especially the lighter ones, are more prone to transparency, so this is something to be aware of. Sometimes you end up having to choose a style which has more than one layer to create opacity or wear a full covering underneath which can be inconvenient. - Not wrinkle resistant
The best hack I have found for this is to iron the hijab with a hair straightener to fix any wrinkles that might frame your face. - Slippery material
Chiffon is definitely one of the more slippery materials so it requires wearing an undercap underneath. You can also pin it down with straight pins which will help prevent it from sliding around. I usually find that pinning it with a safety pin underneath my chin is usually sturdy enough but it does slide a bit throughout the day which can be annoying. - Cold in the winter
I still wear chiffon hijabs in the winter anyways but definitely consider getting a scarf or beanie as well because your head will be cold.
Chiffon is the majority material in my hijab collection because of it’s versatility and the way it looks. There are some cons though (like all materials) of which the transparency is the only big issue to watch out for but in general this is my favorite hijab fabric!
